Founded in 2012, Bright Futures exists to support young women across Tyne & Wear as they face some of life's hardest challenges. When a young woman is dealing with alcohol misuse, domestic abuse, unemployment, poor health and wellbeing, or child sexual exploitation, the charity is there to support, educate, empower and influence, giving her a brighter future.
From three community hubs in South Shields, Bright Futures changes the lives of over 1,600 young women each year, working flexibly and imaginatively across the issues they face. Its support ranges from one-to-one help and group sessions to community programmes and health and wellbeing clinics that address those issues directly, while its education work reaches young women through accessible resources, a range of training programmes and an innovative personal safety app.
The charity also sets out to empower young women to build the knowledge and confidence to support others, training ambassadors and peers from a young age and encouraging young women to work together. As the team puts it, they are “passionate about addressing the needs of all young women across Tyne and Wear.”
Beyond its direct work, Bright Futures uses what it learns to influence. Working with partners that include statutory services, local charities and Government, it offers expert advice to raise awareness of the issues facing young women today and to shape how those issues are understood and addressed.

The Trust's continued support helps Bright Futures address the needs of young women right across Tyne & Wear, from personal safety and health to confidence and opportunity.
That backing sustains the everyday work of the three South Shields hubs, from one-to-one sessions and wellbeing clinics to the training and resources that help young women become ambassadors and peer supporters for others.
