About Kids Kabin

Who they are

Children aged 7 to 13 take part in practical, hands-on activities on their own terms and in their own streets. They learn new skills and then pass those skills on to others, boosting their self-confidence and helping them play active, positive roles in their community.

The workshops arrive by mobile trailer, bringing street pottery, cookery, woodwork and bike repair directly to the neighbourhoods where children live. Over the winter months, when the streets are less welcoming, these sessions move indoors into local community centres and church halls so the work can carry on through the year.

Kids Kabin commits to supporting children and families in disadvantaged communities, and is now working in Walker, Pottery Bank, Daisy Hill, Byker and Cowgate in Newcastle, as well as in Middlesbrough. Staying in a neighbourhood over the long term is central to how the charity builds the trust and relationships that make lasting change possible.

“Each year we work with over 1,000 children and young people in Newcastle, and this funding plays an important part in supporting that work.”

How we help

Our support

Core funding from the Trust is crucial in enabling Kids Kabin to commit to neighbourhoods over the long term, which is vital in building the trust and relationships that enable change.

Each year Kids Kabin works with over 1,000 children and young people in Newcastle, and the Trust's funding plays an important part in supporting that work. Because it is core funding rather than help tied to a single project, it lets the charity stay in a community for as long as it takes to make a difference, returning week after week until the children and families there come to know and trust the faces behind the trailer.
